About

Susan and RobertoSusan and Robert Rossi welcome you to Veneto Trattoria.

Veneto Trattoria is an independently owned and operated Scottsdale, Arizona restaurant modeled after the traditional trattorias of Northern Italy. The authentic menu features fresh, flavorful dishes, all lightly prepared, and are very healthful and satisfying without a heavy, filled feeling.

“Our goal is to authentically recreate Venetian cuisine with a dining experience identical to dining in Venice. The taste experience of our baccala mantecato (Venetian style cod) or fegato alla veneziana (calf liver with golden onions) is the same as that served in Venice,” explains Roberto, who is a native of Treviso, Veneto, Italy.

As a prominent trade port on the Mediterranean for centuries, Venice was influenced by other parts of Europe and the Near East. The Veneto region enjoyed great prosperity and consequently the food was more refined. Good food and drink and fine dining are important aspects of the culture. The first coffee bar in Europe is purported to have been in Venice.

The restaurant is warm, casual and moderately priced and known for its hand-fashioned pastas and gnocchi and luscious risottos. In addition to the regular menu items daily specials are offered as is the custom of trattorias in Italy.

Authentic Northern Italian dishes frequently include seasoning with balsamic vinegar. A connoisseur of balsamic, Rossi is very selective in choosing balsamic as it is used in several dressings and is used to add sweetness in dishes without using butter.

Choosing the right type of olive oil is also key in keeping Veneto dishes authentic. Salads must be tossed with a light olive oil so that the oil does not mask the flavor. For cooking fish a heavier, more flavorful oil is used, but generally dishes tend to be lightly prepared. Northern Italian food differs from Tuscan or Southern Italian food in respect to the type of olive oils used in the preparation of many dishes.

Veneto Trattoria maintains an extensive selection of lesser known but high quality Italian wines as well as an array of California wines. The wine-savy wait staff is always happy to assist with recommendations to compliment your dining choices.
